Choline salicylate + cetylpyridinium is a local oral combination used for pain, inflammation and irritation of the mouth lining, such as mouth ulcers, mild gingivitis, stomatitis or denture lesions. Choline salicylate has local anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects, while cetylpyridinium is an antiseptic that reduces local microbial load.
The product is applied locally, usually as a gel or solution, according to the leaflet. It is placed on the painful area after oral hygiene, avoiding swallowing large amounts. After application, avoid eating or drinking immediately. If irritation is caused by dentures, they should be checked and adjusted by a dentist.
Possible side effects include temporary stinging, irritation, dryness, unpleasant taste, nausea or allergic reactions. Because it contains a salicylate, it should be used cautiously in people allergic to aspirin or anti-inflammatory medicines, in aspirin-sensitive asthma, bleeding disorders or anticoagulant treatment. In children, use should be discussed with a healthcare professional.
Consult a doctor or dentist if the lesion does not heal within a few days, spreads, bleeds, returns often or is accompanied by fever, pus, severe pain or swallowing difficulty. Stop using it if facial swelling, rash, breathing difficulty or intense irritation occurs. The treatment relieves symptoms but does not correct severe infection, dental trauma or poorly fitting dentures.
