Indicated for: glaucoma; ocular hypertension
Route of administration: ophthalmic
Substance: brinzolamide (glaucoma agent)
ATC: S01EC04 (Sensory organs | Antiglaucoma preparations and miotics | Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors)
Brinzolamide is a medication used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that decreases the production of intraocular fluid, thereby lowering pressure inside the eye.
The medication is administered as eye drops, usually two or three times a day, as directed by a doctor. It is important for patients to follow the treatment regimen to prevent vision deterioration.
Common side effects include a burning or stinging sensation in the eyes, temporary blurred vision, and a bitter taste in the mouth. In rare cases, allergic reactions or severe dry eyes may occur.
Brinzolamide is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women unless the benefits outweigh the risks. Patients should inform their doctor about any other conditions or medications being used to avoid drug interactions.
