Leaflet OLBETAM 250mg capsules

Indicated for: dyslipidemia

Route of administration: oral

Substance: acipimox (lipid-lowering agent)

ATC: C10AD06 (Cardiovascular system | Lipid modifying agents, plain | Nicotinic acid and derivatives)

Acipimox is a lipid-lowering medication used to reduce triglyceride and cholesterol levels in the blood, particularly in patients with severe hypertriglyceridemia. It is a derivative of nicotinic acid but has fewer side effects.

Acipimox works by reducing the release of free fatty acids from adipose tissue, leading to decreased triglyceride production in the liver. It is taken orally, usually two to three times a day with meals.

Common side effects include facial flushing, a sensation of warmth, and gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea or abdominal discomfort. These effects are usually mild and transient.

Patients taking acipimox should be periodically monitored for liver function and blood lipid levels to assess treatment efficacy and prevent potential adverse effects.
