Miconazole + hydrocortisone is a skin combination used when inflammation and susceptible fungal infection coexist, for example in some infected dermatitis, intertrigo or irritated skin candidiasis. Miconazole is an antifungal that acts against fungi, while hydrocortisone is a mild corticosteroid that reduces redness, itching and inflammation.

The cream is applied in a thin layer to the affected area according to the leaflet or medical advice, usually for a short period. It should not be used in the eyes, on open wounds, acne, rosacea, viral or tuberculous infections, or on large areas without medical assessment. After inflammation improves, treatment may need to continue with antifungal alone.

Side effects may include burning, irritation, itching, dryness, rash or allergic reactions. Excessive corticosteroid use can thin the skin, promote stretch marks, colour changes or worsening infection. In sensitive areas, in children or under nappies/dressings, steroid absorption may increase, so duration should be limited.

Consult a doctor if the lesion spreads, becomes painful, pus, fever, deep cracks, lack of improvement after a few days or frequent recurrences occur. Tell the doctor if you use oral anticoagulants, because miconazole can interact with some treatments. During pregnancy, breastfeeding and childhood, use only with medical recommendation.
