Indicated for: bacterial infections
Substance: cefonicide (cephalosporin antibiotic)
ATC: J01DC06 (Antiinfectives for systemic use | Other beta-lactam antibacterials | Second-generation cephalosporins)
Cefonicid is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat moderate to severe bacterial infections. It is effective against gram-positive bacteria and some gram-negative bacteria and is commonly used for respiratory infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and surgical infection prophylaxis.
The medication is administered intravenously or intramuscularly, and the dosage is adjusted based on the severity of the infection and the patient's condition. Cefonicid has a long half-life, allowing for once-daily administration in most cases.
Patients should strictly follow their doctor's instructions and complete the treatment to prevent the development of bacterial resistance. Renal function should be monitored during treatment, especially in patients with pre-existing kidney conditions.
Side effects may include injection site reactions, nausea, diarrhea, or allergic reactions. In rare cases, severe reactions such as anaphylactic shock or hematological disorders may occur. Patients should inform their doctor of any unusual symptoms.
