Mexiletine is a class IB antiarrhythmic used for the treatment of symptomatic ventricular arrhythmias. It works by blocking sodium channels, stabilizing cell membranes, and reducing myocardial excitability.

The medication is taken orally, usually two or three times daily, with the dose adjusted based on the patient's response. Common side effects include nausea, dizziness, tremor, and abdominal discomfort.

Mexiletine is contraindicated in patients with high-grade atrioventricular block, cardiogenic shock, or hypersensitivity to the active substance. Its use also requires careful monitoring of cardiac function and electrocardiograms.
