Indicated for: pain and inflammation

Substance: ketoprofen (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug)

ATC: M01AE03 (Musculo-skeletal system | Antiinflammatory and antirheumatic products, non-steroids | Propionic acid derivatives)

Ketoprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat pain and inflammation associated with conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, muscle pain, back pain, and other inflammatory disorders. It is also used to relieve acute pain, such as menstrual pain or post-traumatic pain.

Ketoprofen works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby reducing the production of prostaglandins, substances involved in inflammation, pain, and fever. It is available in the form of tablets, topical gels, suppositories, or injectable solutions.

Side effects may include stomach irritation, nausea, heartburn, dizziness, or, in rare cases, gastric ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding. Long-term use or high doses may increase the risk of cardiovascular events. It is important to use the medication as directed by a doctor.
