Isoniazid is an antibiotic used for the treatment and prevention of tuberculosis. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of the cell wall of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, thereby killing the microorganism.
The medication is taken orally, usually once daily, as directed by a doctor. It is important to complete the treatment duration to prevent the development of bacterial resistance.
Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, peripheral neuropathy, or elevated liver enzymes. In rare cases, severe hepatitis or allergic reactions may occur.
Isoniazid is not recommended for patients with severe hepatic impairment or hypersensitivity to this medication.
