Milk thistle fruit extract + artichoke leaf + greater celandine herb extract is a herbal combination traditionally used for digestive discomfort, fullness, bloating or support of hepato-biliary function. Milk thistle is associated with silymarin, artichoke with bile flow, and greater celandine with effects on digestive spasms. It does not treat serious liver disease.
It is taken by mouth according to the leaflet, usually before or during meals. Use should be cautious because liver and bile products may be unsuitable in gallstones, bile duct obstruction or acute inflammation. If symptoms are persistent, medical diagnosis is more important than continuing supplements. Do not use several liver products together without advice.
Side effects may include nausea, diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, bitter taste, heartburn, itching or rash. Greater celandine has rarely been associated with liver injury, so warning signs must be watched for. People allergic to plants in the Asteraceae family may react to artichoke or milk thistle. Possible interactions with medicines should be discussed with a doctor.
Stop use and seek urgent medical advice if jaundice, dark urine, pale stools, pain under the right ribs, fever, severe nausea or unusual tiredness occurs. During pregnancy, breastfeeding, known liver disease or multiple treatments, use only with medical approval. The combination may relieve minor symptoms, but it does not replace investigations when liver or biliary disease is suspected.
