Route of administration: inhalation
Substance: isoflurane (general anesthetic)
ATC: N01AB06 (Nervous system | Anesthetics, general | Halogenated hydrocarbons)
Isoflurane is an inhalation anesthetic agent used for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia. It works by depressing the central nervous system, inducing a state of unconsciousness and muscle relaxation.
The medication is administered via inhalation using a specialized vaporizer, under the supervision of an anesthesiologist. It is important to monitor the patient's vital signs during anesthesia.
Side effects may include hypotension, nausea, vomiting, or postoperative shivering. In rare cases, malignant hyperthermia or severe allergic reactions may occur.
Isoflurane is not recommended for patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or a history of malignant hyperthermia.
