Leaflet FLUORESCITE INJECTION 10% solution for intravenous injection

Indicated for: ophthalmic diagnosis; cycloplegia

Route of administration: injectable

Substance: sodium fluorescein (diagnostic agent)

ATC: S01JA01 (Sensory organs | Diagnostic agents | Colouring agents)

Sodium fluorescein is a dye used in medicine, especially in ophthalmology, for diagnosing eye injuries or conditions. After application, the substance stains affected areas of the cornea or helps visualize blood vessels in the eye during special investigations such as fluorescein angiography.

It is administered as eye drops or by intravenous injection, depending on the type of investigation. The procedure is quick and usually painless, and the staining effect disappears within a few hours.

Side effects are rare but may include allergic reactions, nausea, dizziness, or temporary yellow-green staining of the skin and urine. In very rare cases, severe reactions may occur, requiring immediate medical attention.

Sodium fluorescein is a safe and effective diagnostic tool, but its use should be supervised by a doctor, especially in people with allergies or severe conditions.
