Fluorometholone is a corticosteroid used in ophthalmology to treat eye inflammation. It is indicated for conditions such as allergic conjunctivitis, keratitis, anterior uveitis, and other inflammations of the anterior segment of the eye that are not caused by bacterial, viral, or fungal infections. Fluorometholone helps reduce inflammation, redness, swelling, and ocular discomfort.

The mechanism of action of fluorometholone involves inhibiting the body's inflammatory response by reducing the release of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. It is available as eye drops or ointment and is applied locally to the eye, ensuring rapid and effective action.

While effective, fluorometholone may cause some side effects. The most common include a burning or stinging sensation upon application, dry eyes, or temporary blurred vision.
