Do not take with milk, calcium, iron, magnesium, or antacids if separation is recommended.
Ferrous glycine sulfate + folic acid + cyanocobalamin is a combination used to prevent or treat some forms of anaemia caused by deficiency of iron, folate or vitamin B12. Iron helps form haemoglobin, folic acid supports blood-cell production, and cyanocobalamin is vitamin B12, which is important for both blood formation and the nervous system.
It is taken by mouth at the dose recommended by a doctor or pharmacist. It is especially useful when blood tests show deficiency or when the risk is increased, such as pregnancy, heavy menstrual bleeding, insufficient diet or recovery after blood loss. Iron should not be taken long term without monitoring, because excess iron can be harmful.
Common side effects include nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, metallic taste and dark stools. Iron can interact with some antibiotics, levothyroxine, antacids, calcium, tea or coffee, reducing absorption. A gap of several hours between medicines is often needed, depending on the product and the medicines used.
Contact a doctor if severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, blood in the stool, allergic reactions or lack of response to treatment occurs. Accidental ingestion of iron can seriously poison children, so the product must be kept closed and out of reach. In unexplained anaemia, folic acid must not mask an untreated vitamin B12 deficiency.
