Leaflet EVARTAN 5mg film-coated tablets

Indicated for: hypertension

Route of administration: oral

Substance: tertatolol (antihypertensive)

ATC: C07AA16 (Cardiovascular system | Beta blocking agents | Beta blocking agents, non-selective)

Tertatolol is a beta-blocker used to treat high blood pressure. It works by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors, reducing heart rate and the force with which the heart pumps blood. By lowering blood pressure, treatment can reduce the long-term risk of complications such as stroke, heart strain or kidney damage.

It is taken by mouth at the dose prescribed by the doctor. It should be taken regularly even when the patient feels well, because high blood pressure may cause no symptoms. Do not stop treatment suddenly without medical advice, as blood pressure, pulse or heart symptoms may worsen. The doctor may monitor blood pressure, pulse and tolerability.

Side effects may include tiredness, dizziness, slow pulse, cold hands and feet, digestive upset, disturbed sleep or reduced exercise tolerance. As a non-selective beta-blocker, it may worsen bronchospasm in people with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It may also mask some signs of low blood sugar in patients with diabetes, especially palpitations.

Contact a doctor if fainting, wheezing, breathing difficulty, very slow pulse, chest pain, leg swelling or worsening tiredness occurs. Tell the doctor about asthma, COPD, diabetes, rhythm disorders, heart failure, peripheral vascular disease and all medicines used. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, it should be used only when clearly indicated.
