Droperidol is an antipsychotic used for the prevention and treatment of postoperative nausea and vomiting, as well as for sedating patients before surgical procedures. It works by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain.

The medication is administered intravenously or intramuscularly, as directed by a doctor. It is important to monitor cardiac function during administration.

Side effects may include drowsiness, hypotension, dizziness, or extrapyramidal reactions. In rare cases, severe cardiac arrhythmias or allergic reactions may occur.

Droperidol is not recommended for patients with hypersensitivity to this medication, long QT syndrome, or severe heart failure.
