ATC: G04CAN1 (Genito urinary system and sex hormones | Drugs used in benign prostatic hypertrophy | Alpha-adrenoreceptor antagonists)
Doxazosin is an alpha-blocker used for the treatment of hypertension and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. It works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the walls of blood vessels and the prostate, improving blood flow and urinary flow.
The medication is taken orally, usually once daily, as directed by a doctor. It is important to monitor blood pressure during treatment.
Side effects may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, or orthostatic hypotension. In rare cases, severe allergic reactions or priapism may occur.
Doxazosin is not recommended for patients with hypersensitivity to alpha-blockers or a history of severe hypotension.
