Indicated for: bacterial infections
Route of administration: oral
Substance: dapsone (antibacterial antibiotic)
ATC: J04BA02 (Antiinfectives for systemic use | Drugs for treatment of lepra)
Dapsonum is an antibiotic primarily used for the treatment of leprosy and dermatitis herpetiformis. It works by inhibiting folic acid synthesis in bacteria, thereby preventing their growth and multiplication.
The medication is taken orally, usually in tablet form, and is effective in combination with other drugs to prevent bacterial resistance. It is also used in the treatment of certain rare bacterial infections.
Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, hemolytic anemia, or allergic reactions. In rare cases, it may cause DRESS syndrome (drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms). Monitoring liver function and blood counts during treatment is essential.
Consult your doctor before use, especially if you have G6PD deficiency or other chronic conditions. Follow the prescribed dosage to avoid complications.
