Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce stomach acid production. It is commonly prescribed for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastric ulcers, and erosive esophagitis.

This medication effectively relieves symptoms of heartburn and acid regurgitation, making it a first-line treatment for GERD. It is also used to prevent and treat ulcers caused by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
