Diclofenac + gentamicin is a local combination used most often in ophthalmology when both inflammation control and antibacterial coverage are needed. Diclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine that reduces pain, redness and inflammation, while gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic active against certain bacteria. It may be used after eye procedures or in infections with inflammation, only when prescribed.
Apply the drops exactly as directed. Wash your hands, avoid touching the bottle tip and follow the prescribed interval between doses. If you use several eye medicines, usually leave a few minutes between them. Do not wear contact lenses during an eye infection or while using the drops unless the doctor allows it.
Possible side effects include stinging, burning, foreign-body sensation, watering, redness, temporary blurred vision or local irritation. Gentamicin may cause allergic reactions or selection of resistant organisms if used incorrectly. Ophthalmic diclofenac may delay healing of the corneal surface in some patients, especially after surgery or in people with corneal disease.
Contact a doctor urgently if severe eye pain, reduced vision, marked light sensitivity, heavy discharge, eyelid swelling, rash or lack of improvement occurs. Do not stop or extend treatment without medical advice. Tell your doctor if you have allergy to anti-inflammatory medicines, aspirin-triggered asthma, corneal injury or several ophthalmic treatments.
