Daptomycin is an antibiotic used for the treatment of serious bacterial infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria, including skin infections, soft tissue infections, and bacteremia. It works by disrupting the bacterial cell membrane, leading to cell death.
The medication is administered intravenously and is particularly indicated for infections caused by resistant bacteria, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It is effective in treating complicated infections.
