Antazoline + sodium cromoglicate is an eye-drop combination used for symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis, such as itching, redness, watering and a gritty feeling in the eyes. Antazoline is an antihistamine that can reduce allergic symptoms quickly, while sodium cromoglicate stabilises mast cells and helps prevent the release of substances involved in allergic reactions.
The drops are put into the eye according to the leaflet or the doctor’s advice. Wash your hands first, do not touch the eye with the bottle tip, and wait a few minutes between different eye products. If you wear contact lenses, check the leaflet; many preserved eye drops should not be used while lenses are in place and may require temporary removal.
Possible side effects include brief stinging, blurred vision after use, dryness, irritation, watering or an unpleasant taste. Allergic reactions or worsening redness are less common. If your vision is blurred, do not drive or use machines until it clears. Excessive or prolonged use without review may hide an infection or another eye condition that needs different treatment.
Contact a doctor if eye pain, marked light sensitivity, pus-like discharge, reduced vision, eye injury or lack of improvement occurs. Allergic conjunctivitis is common, but a red eye can also have serious causes. In children, pregnancy, glaucoma or when several eye medicines are used, treatment should be discussed with a doctor or pharmacist.
