Indicated for: hepatobiliary disorders
Substance: bovine bile + sodium salicylate + methenamine (bile choleretic + salicylate anti-inflammatory + urinary antiseptic)
ATC: A05AAN1 (Alimentary tract and metabolism | Bile therapy | Bile acids and derivatives)
The combination of bovine bile, sodium salicylate, and methenamine is primarily used to support digestion and treat certain gastrointestinal conditions. It is particularly indicated for patients with digestive disorders caused by insufficient bile secretion or for those requiring an antiseptic effect in the urinary tract.
Bovine bile contains bile salts that aid in the digestion of fats by emulsifying them, facilitating their absorption in the intestine. It is used to supplement insufficient bile secretion and is beneficial in cases of gallbladder dysfunction or after cholecystectomy (removal of the gallbladder).
Sodium salicylate has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, helping to reduce inflammation and discomfort associated with gastrointestinal or urinary conditions. It also alleviates pain and irritation in the digestive tract.
Methenamine is a urinary antiseptic that works by releasing formaldehyde in acidic environments, killing bacteria in the urinary tract. It is used to prevent and treat recurrent urinary tract infections, being effective against a broad spectrum of microorganisms.
This combination is administered in the form of tablets or capsules, usually before meals, to support digestion and prevent abdominal discomfort. It is important for patients to follow their doctor’s instructions and not exceed the recommended dose.
Side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, gastric irritation, or allergic reactions. In rare cases, more severe adverse effects such as significant urinary tract irritation or electrolyte imbalances may occur. Patients with kidney conditions or allergies to salicylates should use this treatment with caution.
