Do not take with milk, calcium, iron, magnesium, or antacids if separation is recommended.
This medicine may change blood electrolyte levels.
Sodium picosulfate + magnesium oxide + citric acid is a strong laxative combination used to cleanse the bowel before colonoscopy, imaging or surgery, as directed by a doctor. Citric acid and magnesium oxide form magnesium citrate with an osmotic effect, while picosulfate stimulates bowel movements.
It is taken by mouth according to the exact schedule given by the doctor or leaflet. Drinking the recommended amount of clear fluids and following the pre-procedure diet are essential. The product is not intended for routine constipation treatment. Incorrect use can lead to poor bowel cleansing or dehydration.
Side effects include watery diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, nausea, bloating, vomiting, headache, dizziness or anal irritation. Dehydration and sodium, potassium or magnesium imbalance may occur, especially in older or frail patients and in people with kidney disease, heart disease or treatment with diuretics, ACE inhibitors or sartans.
Contact a doctor if persistent vomiting, fainting, confusion, palpitations, seizures, severe abdominal pain, no bowel movements after use or extreme thirst occurs. Tell the doctor about kidney disease, heart failure, colitis, bowel obstruction, epilepsy or chronic medicines. Other medicines may need to be taken at a different time.
