ATC: J01DC04 (Antiinfectives for systemic use | Other beta-lactam antibacterials | Second-generation cephalosporins)

It is indicated for upper respiratory tract infections (such as tonsillitis or sinusitis), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and some middle ear infections (otitis media).

Cefaclor works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the destruction of bacteria. It is available in capsule, tablet, or oral suspension form and is well-tolerated by most patients.

Side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, skin rashes, or allergic reactions. In rare cases, it can cause severe reactions such as pseudomembranous colitis or hypersensitivity reactions. It is contraindicated in patients with allergies to cephalosporins or penicillins.
