Risk of severe allergic reaction. Seek urgent medical help if serious symptoms occur.

Lidocaine + cetylpyridinium chloride is a local combination used for sore throat, irritation, mild hoarseness or minor inflammation of the mouth and pharynx. Lidocaine relieves pain by numbing the area, while cetylpyridinium chloride is an antiseptic that reduces local microbial load. The treatment is symptomatic and does not treat all causes of throat pain.

It is usually used as lozenges, pastilles or spray, according to the leaflet. Lozenges should dissolve slowly in the mouth and should not be chewed or swallowed whole. Do not exceed the recommended doses, and avoid eating immediately after use if the throat or tongue is numb, to prevent accidental biting or swallowing problems.

Side effects may include numbness, tingling, altered taste, dry mouth, irritation, nausea, rash or allergic reactions. Very frequent use may irritate the mucosa. The product does not replace antibiotics when a bacterial infection requires specific treatment and should not be used for a long time without medical advice.

Consult a doctor if sore throat is severe, lasts more than a few days, or is associated with high fever, breathing difficulty, major swallowing difficulty, pus on the tonsils, widespread rash or facial swelling. In children, follow the minimum age stated in the leaflet. During pregnancy, breastfeeding or allergy to local anaesthetics, ask for medical advice before use.
