Leaflet BIAFINE cutaneous emulsion

Indicated for: superficial burns; skin irritation; radiodermatitis

Route of administration: cutaneous

Substance: trolamine (emollient and skin protectant)

ATC: D11AXN4 (Dermatologicals | Other dermatological preparations | Other dermatologicals)

Trolamine is used in some dermatological products for irritated skin, superficial burns, mild sunburn, cracks or minor skin lesions, depending on the product formulation. Its role is mainly local, helping soothe the area and support a skin environment favourable to repair. It is not suitable as the only care for deep burns or serious wounds.

It is applied to clean, dry skin in a thin layer, according to the leaflet. The product is for external use only and should not be placed in the eyes, mouth, nose or on mucous membranes. For a burn, correct first aid is cooling the area with cool running water for an appropriate time before applying any product, if the situation allows. Do not use tight dressings unless advised.

Side effects may include temporary stinging, redness, itching, irritation, rash or allergic reactions. If the treated area becomes more painful, swollen, starts oozing or develops extensive blisters, infection or a more severe injury may be present. Do not apply to large areas, deep burns, bites or contaminated wounds without medical assessment.

Seek medical help for burns on the face, hands, feet or genitals, chemical or electrical burns, large burns, fever, pus, severe pain or lack of healing. In children, pregnant women and people with diabetes or poor circulation, skin injuries should be assessed more carefully. Trolamine may help local symptoms, but it does not replace proper wound and burn care.
