BEZAFIBRAT SLAVIA 200mg tablets medication leaflet

C10AB02 bezafibrate • Cardiovascular system | Lipid modifying agents, plain | Fibrates

Bezafibrate is a lipid-lowering medication used to reduce elevated blood lipid levels, particularly triglycerides and LDL cholesterol (the 'bad' cholesterol). It is indicated for the treatment of dyslipidemias, especially in patients at high risk of cardiovascular diseases. Bezafibrate belongs to the class of drugs known as fibrates and works by activating PPAR-α receptors, which decrease lipid synthesis and increase lipid clearance.

The medication is taken orally, usually once or twice daily, as directed by a doctor. It is effective in lowering triglycerides and slightly increasing HDL cholesterol (the 'good' cholesterol).

Possible side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, abdominal pain), fatigue, muscle pain, or, in rare cases, rhabdomyolysis (a serious condition involving muscle tissue breakdown). Liver and kidney function should be monitored regularly during treatment.

Bezafibrate is contraindicated in patients with severe liver or kidney impairment or those with hypersensitivity to the active substance. It is also not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless the benefits outweigh the risks.
