Etoricoxib is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) from the class of selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors. It is used to treat pain and inflammation associated with conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gout, and other musculoskeletal disorders.

It works by inhibiting the COX-2 enzyme, which is responsible for producing prostaglandins involved in inflammation and pain. Unlike traditional NSAIDs, etoricoxib has a lower risk of causing gastrointestinal side effects, such as gastric ulcers.

It is available in tablet form and is taken orally as directed by a doctor. The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the condition being treated and the patient's response.

Side effects may include headache, dizziness, high blood pressure, nausea, diarrhea, peripheral edema, and, rarely, cardiovascular events (such as heart attack or stroke). Long-term use or high doses may increase the risk of cardiovascular complications.

Etoricoxib is contraindicated in patients with severe heart failure, uncontrolled hypertension, active cardiovascular disease, or severe liver impairment. It is important to use it as prescribed by a healthcare provider.
