Leaflet AMPICILINA ATB 1000mg 1g powder for injection

Indicated for: bacterial infections

Substance: ampicillin (penicillin antibiotic)

ATC: J01CA01 (Antiinfectives for systemic use | Beta-lactam antibacterials, penicillins | Penicillins with extended spectrum)

Ampicillin is an antibiotic from the penicillin class used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and is used for respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia), urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal infections (such as typhoid fever), and skin and soft tissue infections.

Ampicillin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial destruction. It is available in the form of capsules, oral suspension, or injectable solution, with administration depending on the severity of the infection.

Side effects include nausea, diarrhea, skin rashes, and, in rare cases, severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). It is important to take it as prescribed by a doctor and to complete the full course of treatment to prevent bacterial resistance.

Ampicillin is contraindicated in patients with allergies to penicillins or other beta-lactam antibiotics.
