It works by increasing the levels of serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain, neurotransmitters that play a key role in regulating mood and pain.

Amitriptyline is taken orally, usually once daily in the evening, due to its sedative effect. The dosage is gradually adjusted based on the patient's response and the severity of symptoms.

Common side effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, and weight gain. In rare cases, severe adverse reactions such as cardiac arrhythmias, seizures, or withdrawal symptoms upon abrupt discontinuation may occur.
