Indicated for: hypertension
Substance: zofenopril (ACE inhibitor)
ATC: C09AA15 (Cardiovascular system | Ace inhibitors, plain)
Zofenopril is a medication from the class of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. It helps lower blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels, thereby reducing the workload on the heart and improving blood circulation.
Zofenopril is also used to protect the heart after an acute myocardial infarction, especially in patients with left ventricular dysfunction. By reducing the activity of angiotensin II, a hormone that causes blood vessel constriction, zofenopril helps prevent further damage to the heart and blood vessels.
Side effects may include dizziness, dry cough, fatigue, or, in rare cases, allergic reactions. It is important to use zofenopril as directed by a healthcare provider, and patients should avoid concurrent use with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics to prevent hyperkalemia.
