Aprepitant is a neurokinin-1 (NK1) receptor antagonist used in the prevention of chemotherapy-induced or postoperative nausea and vomiting. It works by blocking NK1 receptors in the central nervous system, thereby preventing the effects of substance P, a neurotransmitter involved in the vomiting reflex.

Aprepitant is administered orally, usually in combination with other antiemetic medications such as corticosteroids and 5-HT3 receptor antagonists. It is commonly used in chemotherapy regimens with high emetogenic potential.

Common side effects include fatigue, constipation, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. In rare cases, allergic reactions or elevated liver enzymes may occur.
