TINIZOL 2g/l 0.2% infusion solution medication leaflet

P01AB02 tinidazole • Antiparasitic products, insecticides and repellents | Agents against amoebiasis and other protozoal diseases | Nitroimidazole derivatives

Tinidazole is an antimicrobial medication used to treat infections caused by protozoa and anaerobic bacteria. It is effective against conditions such as trichomoniasis, giardiasis, amebiasis, and anaerobic bacterial infections, including bacterial vaginosis. Tinidazole works by damaging the DNA of microorganisms, thereby inhibiting their growth and reproduction.

The medication is taken orally, usually as a single dose or over a short period, depending on the type and severity of the infection. It is important to complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by a doctor, even if symptoms improve before finishing.

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, a metallic taste in the mouth, headache, and fatigue. Rarely, allergic reactions or neurological effects, such as dizziness or seizures, may occur. Tinidazole is contraindicated during the first trimester of pregnancy and in patients with hypersensitivity to nitroimidazoles. Additionally, alcohol consumption should be avoided during treatment and for at least 72 hours after completing it, as it may cause severe adverse reactions (disulfiram-like effect).
