TICLOPIDINE POLI 250mg tablets medication leaflet

B01AC05 ticlopidine • Blood and blood forming organs | Antithrombotic agents | Platelet aggregation inhibitors excl. heparin

Ticlopidine is an antiplatelet medication used to prevent blood clots (thrombosis) in conditions with a high risk of thrombotic events, such as ischemic strokes, myocardial infarction, or arterial thrombosis. It works by inhibiting platelet aggregation, blocking receptors on the surface of platelets, and preventing clot formation.

Ticlopidine is often used in patients who cannot tolerate other antiplatelet medications, such as aspirin, or in combination with other treatments to reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications. It is taken orally, usually twice daily, as prescribed by a doctor.

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and skin rashes. In rare cases, it can cause serious adverse effects, such as agranulocytosis (a severe drop in white blood cells), thrombocytopenia (low platelet count), or thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP). For this reason, regular blood count monitoring is required during treatment. Ticlopidine is contraindicated in patients with bleeding disorders, active bleeding, or severe liver impairment.
