TIAPRIDAL 100mg / 2ml injectible solution medication leaflet

N05AL03 tiapride • Nervous system | Antipsychotics | Benzamides

Tiapride is a medication primarily used for the treatment of movement disorders such as chorea, dystonia, and involuntary movements associated with neurological conditions like Huntington's disease or Tourette's syndrome. It is also used to manage psychomotor agitation, particularly in elderly patients, and for the symptomatic treatment of chronic alcoholism, especially to reduce withdrawal symptoms.

Tiapride belongs to the class of atypical antipsychotics and works by blocking dopamine receptors (particularly D2 receptors) in the central nervous system, which helps reduce abnormal movements and agitation.

The medication is taken orally, usually 2-3 times per day, as directed by a doctor. Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, and, in rare cases, extrapyramidal symptoms (such as muscle stiffness or tremors). It is contraindicated in patients with Parkinson's disease, as it may worsen its symptoms, and should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment.
