Indicated for: hypertension
Substance: ramipril + indapamide (ACE inhibitor + diuretic)
ATC: C09BA05 (Cardiovascular system | Ace inhibitors, combinations | Ace inhibitors and diuretics)
Ramipril + indapamide is a combination used to treat high blood pressure, when one medicine alone is not enough. Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor that relaxes blood vessels, while indapamide is a thiazide-like diuretic that removes extra salt and water. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke, heart attack and kidney damage.
It is usually taken in the morning, with or without food, as prescribed. Morning dosing may reduce night urination. Check your blood pressure as advised and do not stop treatment just because you feel well; high blood pressure often has no symptoms. Less salt, exercise, weight control and limited alcohol support the effect.
Side effects may include dizziness, tiredness, headache, dry cough, nausea, muscle cramps, dehydration or changes in sodium, potassium and kidney function. Stand up slowly to reduce the risk of falls. Seek urgent help if you develop swelling of the face, lips or throat, breathing difficulty, fainting, very low blood pressure or a severe rash.
Do not use this combination during pregnancy. Tell your doctor if you plan pregnancy, breastfeed, or have kidney disease, liver disease, gout, diabetes or sulfonamide allergy. Avoid potassium supplements and salt substitutes unless your doctor approves them. Painkillers such as NSAIDs, lithium and other blood pressure medicines may interact. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function and electrolytes is important.
