The combination of benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin is used for the treatment of acne vulgaris, particularly in moderate to severe cases. This combination combines the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects of clindamycin, an antibiotic that inhibits the growth of Cutibacterium acnes, with the keratolytic and antibacterial properties of benzoyl peroxide, which helps reduce inflammation and prevent clogged pores.

The medication is available as a gel or cream and is applied topically to the affected areas, usually once daily, preferably in the evening, as directed by a doctor. It should be applied to clean, dry skin, avoiding contact with the eyes, lips, and mucous membranes.

Common side effects include dryness, redness, peeling, burning, or itching sensations. These reactions are usually temporary and subside as the skin adjusts to the treatment. Benzoyl peroxide can bleach clothing, towels, or hair, so contact with these should be avoided.

This combination is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin, or other lincosamide antibiotics. Its use during pregnancy or breastfeeding should be done with caution and only under medical advice. Excessive sun exposure and the use of other irritating products should be avoided during treatment.
