CALMPOSE 10mg / 2ml injectible solution medication leaflet

N05BA01 diazepam • Nervous system | Anxiolytics | Benzodiazepine derivatives

Diazepam is a medication from the benzodiazepine class used to treat anxiety, insomnia, muscle spasms, seizures, and for sedation before medical procedures. It works by enhancing the effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter that reduces excessive brain activity, producing calming, muscle-relaxing, and anticonvulsant effects.

It is available in the form of tablets, oral solution, injectable solution, or rectal suppositories. Diazepam is intended for short-term use, as prolonged use can lead to dependence, tolerance, and withdrawal syndrome.

Side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, muscle weakness, confusion, coordination problems, and, rarely, paradoxical reactions (agitation, irritability). It is contraindicated in patients with severe respiratory insufficiency, sleep apnea, severe liver failure, or substance dependence.

Diazepam should be used as prescribed by a doctor, and discontinuation should be done gradually to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
