Sodium para-aminosalicylate (PAS) is a medication primarily used for the treatment of tuberculosis, especially in cases of drug-resistant tuberculosis. It is a bacteriostatic agent that works by inhibiting folic acid synthesis in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, thereby reducing its ability to multiply.

Sodium para-aminosalicylate is usually administered in combination with other antitubercular drugs to prevent the development of bacterial resistance. It is available in the form of granules or oral solution.

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Rarely, allergic reactions, hepatotoxicity, or hematological disorders may occur. Patients must strictly follow the treatment regimen prescribed by their doctor and report any adverse reactions.
