Indicated for: allergic rhinitis; inflammatory dermatoses; asthma
Substance: mometasone (glucocorticoid)
ATC: R01AD09 (Respiratory system | Decongestants and other nasal preparations for topical use | Corticosteroids)
Mometasone is a corticosteroid used to treat inflammation and allergies, available as a nasal spray, cream, ointment, or inhaler. It is indicated for managing seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis, nasal polyps, bronchial asthma, and inflammatory skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis or psoriasis.
It works by reducing inflammation, itching, and swelling, providing rapid symptom relief. For allergic rhinitis, mometasone helps reduce nasal congestion, sneezing, and nasal discharge.
It is generally well-tolerated but may cause side effects such as local irritation, nasal dryness, headaches, or, more rarely, nosebleeds. Long-term use requires medical monitoring to prevent systemic side effects.
Mometasone should be used as directed by a doctor, and patients should not exceed the recommended dose. It is an effective treatment for allergic and inflammatory symptoms but is not suitable for viral or bacterial infections.
